The Regional Outcome Indicators site can be found at http://roi.gos.gov.uk
The ROIs were designed to give Ministers and officials with a cross-cutting interest in delivery a quick ‘way in’ to questions of regional and local variation, providing a ready summary of how key outcomes are moving across the country. The Regional Co-ordination Unit has matched the ROIs to Departmental Public Service Agreements as far as possible, to ensure that they have relevance for officials across Government.
The ROIs cover major policy themes, including employment, community safety, education, housing, welfare and skills, and are available in two forms: a six-monthly bulletin for Ministers and senior officials and a more detailed web-site version.
The front page of both the bulletin and the website is a regional ‘snapshot’, which presents the 22 indicators in terms of change over the previous period.
Whilst the bulletin contains some basic analysis of the indicators at a regional level, the website breaks down the data much further – with over 200 pages of tables, maps, graphs and useful contextual information including commentary provided by the Departments. The website can be used to explore variations at both regional and local levels without having to spend hours making sense of raw data.
The website is in daily use by Government Office staff, who are able to download pre-prepared tables, charts and maps showing sub-national variations in key Government policies. These can then be used for various applications, such as presentations and reports.
