Improving Education For Young People In Custody

In a keynote speech to the Youth Justice Board Convention today (14 November 2007) Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, announced plans to consult on the role of local authorities in education and training for young people in custody.

This follows on from a review into the education of young offenders. He will say that young people in custody - who make up around three per cent of all young people who offend – should make the same progress in education as those in mainstream education.
