In the weeks leading up to Christmas, thousands of organisations in these sectors will be interviewed to build a detailed picture of the “administrative burden” – what it costs them in time and money to complete forms and provide information to show they are complying with each regulation. During more than 20,000 interviews, conducted face-to-face and by telephone, stakeholders will also be able to submit their own proposals for improvement. An independent study estimated that annual savings of perhaps £10bn were achievable through systematically cutting such red tape. The admin burdens measurement exercise in November and December is part of the Government’s wider Simplification Programme.
