Post 16 Participation Rate at Highest Level Ever

A record 1.6 million young people aged 16 to 18 – the highest number ever – are now taking part in education, work based learning or training, new Government figures have shown today. At the end of 2007 over 78 per cent of young people were participating post 16, gaining knowledge and skills that will help them to succeed in life.

This comes ahead of the Government’s plans to raise the participation age which will ensure that all young people participate to age 17 from 2013 and to 18 from 2015.
