Yorkshire and the Humber adults still not claiming education cash they're due

Published: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 15:13:50

Adults in Yorkshire and the Humber who have gone back into education - or are thinking of doing so - are being urged to take advantage of the financial support available to them.

The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) is a weekly payment from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) that is designed to help adults overcome the financial barriers to learning. Up to £30 a week is available to adults over the age of 19 who meet the eligibility criteria.

But although the scheme has been a huge success since its national roll-out in September 2007, with over 42,000 people receiving the grant to date, government figures show that there are still large numbers of adult learners in Yorkshire and the Humber who have been assessed as eligible to receive financial support from ALG but are not claiming.

Government figures show that despite some 29,000 adults nationally having already been assessed as eligible to receive support from the Adult Learning Grant (ALG) this year, around a quarter still haven't claimed the money they could be due.
