New opportunities top of the agenda on visit to South Yorkshire

Published: Mon, 19 Jan 2009 13:22:29

Yorkshire & Humber Regional Minister Rosie Winterton Friday praised Rawmarsh Children's Centre, near Rotherham, for its work in improving the lives and opportunities facing children and young people in the community.

The Minister's visit was timed to highlight the Government's New Opportunities White Paper launched this week which set out plans for building fair chances for everyone to succeed and for capturing jobs of the future by investing in people, families, training and employment.

The centre, which was established in September, 2002, provides health, childcare and nursery services for children and their families. It also plays a crucial role in providing advice and guidance to the wider community through links to Jobcentre Plus, neighbouring Rawmarsh School and other local initiatives. These links are helping people to make better decisions about their future employment and training.
