Rosie Winterton attends first meeting of new council of Regional Ministers

Published: Thu, 16 Oct 2008 12:15:19

Helping savers, small businesses and homeowners in Yorkshire & the Humber through the worldwide economic problems was top of the agenda at the first meeting of the Council of Regional Ministers today.

The Council brought together the ministers for the English regions as well as the ministers for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales to look at what help the regions need and what Whitehall can do to provide it.

Rosie Winterton, Regional Minister for Yorkshire & the Humber said:

"This is a difficult time for the global economy and a worrying time for people. As the economic challenges move to the cities and towns in this region our response must leave no-one behind. The Government has already taken steps to shore up the economy nationally, now we're looking at how to deal with more local issues. We are already dealing nationally and regionally with the impact on HBOS and Bradford & Bingley in West Yorkshire, and that continues to be one of my priorities.
