English councils learn from Rotherham cracking down on fly tippers

Published: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 11:53:08

Councils around England have been encouraged to learn from Rotherham's lead to help clean up the streets, in a new guide published today (13 August).

In a drive to track down fly-tippers, Rotherham Environmental Crime Officers teamed up with the Police so suspected fly-tippers could be interviewed at the police station whilst under arrest. Previously the Council faced difficulties to prosecute them as they avoided formal requests for interviews or answering questions under caution by letter.
