Top Ministers in Leeds to seek views on new laws

The Minister for Yorkshire & the Humber, Rosie Winterton, and Cabinet Minister Ed Miliband are in Leeds today (Friday 11 July) to urge people in the region to have their say on the Government's proposed new laws.

The two senior Ministers are at a consultation meeting in the city with a cross-section of public, private and voluntary organisations as part of a national day of events designed to bring the Government's draft legislative programme into the public eye.

The new bills on the table affect every part of the community in every part of Yorkshire & the Humber, There are elements in the legislation covering:
* Helping people to build up savings and protect them
* More help for first time buyers and housing market support
* Action on anti-social behaviour and policing
* A new constitution for the NHS setting out patients' rights
* Equality for agency workers and giving workers the right to train
* Requiring those seeking British citizenship to learn English
* Measures to give people more influence over local spending
* Ensuring every school is a good school
