Regional Minister Rosie Winterton supports National Tackling Drugs Week activity in York

Published: Fri, 23 May 2008 15:25:06

The Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber, Rosie Winterton, was in York on 22 May to help a local drug treatment charity mark National Tackling Drugs Week (19-23 May).

The visit to Compass One gave the Minister the opportunity to see for herself how local agencies are helping people with drugs, alcohol and substance misuse problems.

Commissioned by the North Yorkshire and York Drug Alcohol Action Team, Compass is a non-profit organisation, set up in 1986 to provide a range of services for drug users from needle exchange to prescribing services and support and guidance for families.

Other activities taking place across North Yorkshire to mark the week include street safe surgeries in Hambleton, a community Drugs Awareness evening in Skipton and a football match in Scarborough between The Cambridge Centre and the Safer Community Police Team.
