Awards for enterprising businesses and individuals

The annual winners and recipients of The Queen's Awards for Enterprise were announced on 21 April, The Queen's birthday. They are the UK's most prestigious accolades for business-related achievement and across the whole country a total of 119 business Awards and 11 individual Awards have been conferred this year.
In Yorkshire and the Humber awards have gone to four organisations as diverse as a North Yorkshire bioscience specialist that exports to 20 countries across five continents, a West Yorkshire manufacturer of specialist chemicals that has seen its export earnings increase by more that £5m over three years, an East Yorkshire company that has developed a powerful, new laser for cutting materials ranging from steel to ceramics, and a high profile Harrogate food and catering company which wins an award for the second time for its outstanding success in sustainable business development.
This is the third year of The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion (QAEP), an Award for individuals who have played an outstanding and significant role in promoting the growth of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in others. They include a Lifetime Achievement Award and ten Standard Awards. In this region an award goes to Professor David Secher, Chief Executive of N8, Sheffield, who has had a highly successful 30-year career in enterprise promotion.
