English Heritage shows minister how heritage is revitalising Sheffield

Published: Tue, 30 Sep 2008 12:35:58

Some of Sheffield's most important heritage projects were put in the spot-light today (Monday 29 September) following a visit by Rosie Winterton, Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Simon Thurley, Chief Executive of English Heritage, and Maddy Jago, English Heritage Director of Planning and Development, showed the Minister some of Sheffield's most successful heritage developments and revealed how listed buildings such as the landmark Park Hill Estate and Highfield Trinity Church on London Road are restoring community pride and being used as a catalyst for the city's regeneration.

Highfield Trinity Methodist Church, a Grade II listed Victorian building in a deprived part of inner-city Sheffield is being repaired and upgraded following grants of £280,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), through the Repair Grants for Places of Worship Scheme run by English Heritage and HLF.
