Barnsley/Kendray Initiative
Barnsley/Kendray Initiative
The Kendray Initiative Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder (NMP) was awarded £3.5million over 7 years in 2002. It was one of the first 20 national NMPs.
Area
· Kendray is an area of mainly social housing forming parts of the Ardsley and Park wards of the Barnsley local authority district and is located approximately 1 mile to the east of the town centre.
· The 2001 census indicated that there were 4,798 residents living in 1,924 households, with a larger proportion of children and young people than the Barnsley average.
Aims The aims of the Kendray Initiative partnership are:
· underpinning the place of young people · improving housing and estate management · creating a neighbourhood fit for the future · improving learning, training and job opportunities for residents · promoting Kendray and building its strengths · reshaping and improving public service delivery.
The NMP board and team
The Kendray Initiative Board comprises a strong membership of resident, voluntary sector, business and public service representatives, together with local elected councillors from Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
The MBC now leads delivery, supported by a small Neighbourhood Management team.
