Regional Integrated Framework
Regional Integrated Framework
The Yorkshire and Humber region recognises Sustainable Development (SD) as its central policy goal and is committed to putting it at the heart of all the region’s strategic plans. The Integrated Regional Framework (IRF) is integral to the delivery of SD through regional strategies and plans.
‘Growing Together – the Integrated Regional Framework’ merges
two pre-existing frameworks - ‘Advancing Together’ and the
‘Regional Sustainable Development Framework’ - to set out the key
sustainable development issues facing the region. The IRF, which was produced
following an extensive two year consultation with regional partners, was
published in 2008.
The IRF identifies ten challenges, sets out the direction the region needs to
take and details what the region needs to do more of, or do differently in the
future to make progress against that challenge. It will also form the basis for
measuring how the region is progressing.
The ten challenges are:
• Supporting sustainable transport
• Reducing the impact of future climate change
• Increasing the region’s resistance to climate change
• Improving productivity and innovation
• Improving educational attainment and developing skills
• Meeting housing availability and affordability needs
• Improving public health and reducing obesity
• Reducing violent crime
• Reducing inequality and embracing diversity
• Achieving sustainable growth
Ensuring that the principles of sustainable development are fully integrated
into funding, policy and decision making at all levels across the region is a
key objective for all the regional partners including the Government Office.
Local Government Yorkshire and Humber, Yorkshire Forward and Government Office
for Yorkshire and the Humber will help steer the overall framework, while local
authorities, businesses and organisations in all sectors across the region will
be responsible for coordinating delivery to local communities at ground
level.
