Regional Economic Performance

Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber (GOYH) works with Yorkshire Forward and partners to improve regional economic performance and achieve the objectives in the Regional Economic Strategy (RES).

Regional Economic Performance – Progress in the Region 2006

The Progress in the Region 2006 report, produced by Yorkshire Futures, monitors the Yorkshire and Humber's performance on a wide spread of key indicators. Its analysis spans all areas of the region's 'Advancing Together' framework, which sets out the region's overall vision, brings together key strategies and covers issues as diverse as economy, infrastructure, environment, education and skills, quality of life and governance. The report is supported by a spectrum of bodies including GOYH, Yorkshire Forward, the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly, and the Environment Agency.

Yorkshire and Humber Regional Economic Strategy (RES) 2006-15

In July 2006, Yorkshire Forward launched the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) 2006-2015. The RES provides the 10 year blueprint for economic development in Yorkshire and The Humber. It also provides a framework of common priorities around which businesses, public agencies, voluntary groups and communities can focus their investment and effort.

The strategy's six objectives are:-

1. More Businesses that last - because higher levels of enterprise are important.

2. Competitive Businesses - making indigenous businesses more productive because they innovate and invest.

3. Skilled People benefiting businesses - with talents that employers value and which offer due reward.

4. Connecting People to good jobs - because levels of employment make a big difference to people and the economy, and there is a need for more people in jobs in deprived areas.

5. Transport, Infrastructure and Environment - a strong economy needs good sustainable transport connections and to make the best of the environment and infrastructure.

6. Stronger Cities, Towns and Rural Communities - to ensure they are attractive places to live, work and invest.
