Extended Schools and Extended Services
Extended Schools and Extended Services
Extended Schools provide a range of services and activities often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of children, their families and the wider community through access to a core of extended services: • Quality childcare • A varied menu of activities • Parenting support • Swift and easy referral and • Community access.
Extended Services can include childcare, adult education, parenting support programmes, community-based health and social care services, multi-agency behaviour support teams and after school activities.
The aim ultimately is to see all secondary schools open from 8am – 6pm all year round offering a range of activities.
By September 2006, 416 schools in Yorkshire and The Humber were providing the full range of extended services with the expectation that by 2008 over 1400 schools in the region will be offering similar services to meet the needs of their local children, families and wider community.
