Basic Command Unit Fund
On 21 January 2003 the Home Secretary announced the distribution of a special £50 million fund for local police commanders to tackle the problems that matter most in their communities.
Police are able to target the extra resources at local level problems, like anti social behaviour and drugs, which make a real impact on communities’ quality of life. The fund is currently in it's fifth year of operation, having started in April 2003 and recognises the significant contribution that the police make to the work of Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships.
The fund has developed initiatives and projects ranging from a state of the art mobile CCTV surveillance van in Sheffield, a mobile police station in Doncaster, to forensic fast tracking in Hull, Police Community Support Officers in North Yorkshire and media campaigns in Bradford.
