The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, amended by the Police Reform Act 2002, sets out statutory requirements for responsible authorities to work with other local agencies and organisations to develop and implement strategies to tackle crime and disorder and misuse of drugs in their area.

Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber is responsible for a variety of funding streams, including the following:
-Basic Command Unit Fund. The BCU fund is to provide funding to promote partnership working and help deliver crime reduction at the frontline that would not otherwise be provided.
-Tackling Violent Crime Programme. To date seen the roll out of three rounds of this initiative. Its aim is to reduce volume violent crime in those areas with the highest volumes of more serious violence.
-Domestic Violence Fund. This is allocated to Community Safety Partnerships to develop and implement local strategies for reducing domestic violence.
