The Lifewise Street Scene in the Magna Centre in Rotherham

Lifewise, Magna Centre, Rotherham

Launched in June 2005 the Lifewise project is a ‘film-set’ style life-size street complete with houses, shops and pubs which is used to stage mock scenarios, delivering messages to groups of people of any age on safety and citizenship. The space is available for schools and other organisations that want to engage in imaginative programmes to deal with a variety of issues surrounding modern life. It is housed in a large former steel works on the outskirts of Rotherham.

The project builds on the success of South Yorkshire Police’s Crucial Crew project which was previously based at Rother Valley Country Park. This set out teaching schoolchildren how to handle emergencies.

Lifewise is being supported by South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Single Regeneration Budget (Rotherham) and is partly funded through the Recovered Asset Fund, which GOYH manages
