York Graffiti Campaign
A major partnership between City of York Council, North Yorkshire Police, Crimestoppers and the Yorkshire Evening Press was launched in York to rid the city of the menace of graffiti.
A reward of up to £1,000 was offered to those who supplied information which led to the arrest of graffiti vandals. City of York’s Street Environment Services complied data on the most prevalent “taggers” in the city to help the police identify offenders. Crimestoppers put up funding for the reward offered and Safer York Partnership invested cash from its Home Office ‘Together – tackling anti-social behaviour’ fund to boost the reward money.
Extensive coverage appeared in the Yorkshire Evening Press and posters were distributed in schools and youth clubs.
