Students see Minister on Westminster Trip

GOYH stepped in to brighten the day for children and key workers working with a ‘Positive Activities for Young People’ Programme in Sheffield when, in September 2004, Ivan Lewis, the Minister with responsibility for Street Crime and Prolific Offenders in South Yorkshire, had to cancel a visit to the area at a late stage.

Not to disappoint the group engaged in the Programme- which aims to reduce youth offending and encourage and support young people to return to education or training- GOYH decided to take the unusual step of organising a visit for them to see the Minister at his Parliamentary Office in Westminster and be provided with a memorable tour of parliament by the Minister himself.

The visit went superbly well and was reported in both the Sheffield Star and the Yorkshire Post, as below;

A group of young people from Sheffield will pay a visit to parliament today to meet up with Minister for young people and adult skills Ivan Lewis and see the inside workings of Westminster. Mr Lewis, who has special responsibility for driving forward the battle against street crime in South Yorkshire, met the students, who are studying information technology in the city, during the launch of a mobile phone website earlier this year.’ (Yorkshire Post 22/11/04)
