Doncaster Trap Car

Funded through GOYH, the 'Trap Car' is a specially modified car which has been parked in identified crime hotpspots around Doncaster with the intention of catching local car criminals.

The car is equipped with a vulnerable dummy Satellite Navigation system and contains a mobile phone on open display. When an attempt is made to break into the car and steal these items an alarm is activated, the thieves are sprayed with 'Smart Water' and a CCTV camera picks up an image of their face. 'Smart Water' is  a unique solution containing a blend of harmless chemicals providing it with a "forensic fingerprint".  It is invisible to the naked eye but when subjected to ultra violet light, its presence is immediately obvious by a telltale fluorescent glow.

The Trap Car is left in identified vehicle crime hotspots and was recently sucessful in snaring three prolific offenders in the town, as reported in the Doncaster Star.
