CDRP Barnsley Car Crime Campaign

Motorists in Barnsley were reminded to hide their belongings when parking their cars with a campaign launched on 20 September 2004.

The Eye-catching black, ‘Smash‘n’ Grab’ logo could be seen throughout the borough over the Autumn months in an effort to get the message across.

In the run up to Christmas motorists were reminded to take care of their shopping and gifts with leaflets and yellow posters displaying slogans such as ‘Park ‘n’ Hide’.

Posters displaying ‘Ho, Ho Ho! Don’t give a thief the last laugh!’ and ‘Don’t be a Christmas pudding! Don’t let the contents of your car make a thief’s Christmas’. Were also available.

The campaign, which is being supported by the Community Safety Partnership Autocrime group – a joint venture led by South Yorkshire Police, with help from Barnsley Council, Barnsley Chamber of Commerce and South Yorkshire Trading Standards, aims to make drivers more aware of the risks of having items on show in unattended vehicles.

A media opportunity to promote the launch of the campaign took place alongside a public bus displaying the ‘Park ‘n’ Hide’ logo with representatives from the Autocrime group.
