Professor Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke was appointed Vice-Principal at the University of Birmingham in January 2003. He joined the University ten years ago, having spent 18 years outside the academic world – latterly as Chief Executive of the Local Government Management Board, the national employers’ organisation for local government.
For the last five years, he has had responsibility for the University’s external relationships, including those with business. He is a non-executive director of the Birmingham Research Park and the Malvern Hills Science Park and chairs the Central Technology Belt (having chaired the A38 Corridor Partnership Steering Committee from its inception). He chairs the Worcestershire Strategic Partnership and is a member of the Birmingham Strategic Partnership and the West Midlands Regional Assembly. He is also a member of the General Synod of the Church of England and a Lay Canon and member of the Chapter of Worcester Cathedral.
