New Chair For South West Regional Development Agency

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson today announced the appointment of Sir Harry Studholme as the new Chair of the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA). The appointment will initially be until December 2012 and the remuneration is £80,510 for a time commitment of 3 days per week.
Lord Mandelson said:
“"I am delighted to appoint Sir Harry Studholme as the new Chair of the South West Regional Development Agency. Sir Harry’s experience in business will be vital as the SWRDA takes a lead role in steering the South West economy through this difficult period.”
Sir Harry Studholme will be appointed Chair designate for a period of three months prior to taking up the appointment, working closely with the current Chair to ensure continuity within the RDA at this critical time. Sir Harry will take up the post of Chair on 1st July 2009
Lord Mandelson praised the contribution of the outgoing Chair of SWRDA, Juliet Williams: “During her term in post Juliet Williams has proved herself to be a strong and committed chair, bringing a high degree of energy and passion to the role in supporting and promoting the South West Region. Her contribution to developing the education and skills agendas, together with her work in support of the tourism sector has been significant and much appreciated.”
Ben Bradshaw MP, Regional Minister for the South West also welcomed the announcement:
“Harry’s strong commitment to our region, his business experience and leadership skills make him well placed to take the RDA forward at a time when its work is more important to the economic well being and future of the South West than ever. I would also like to pay tribute to the strong contribution Juliet Williams has provided the South West over the past 6 years.”
