Good enough for my child workshops

A series of seminars designed to support LAs and their partners in their implementation of Care Matters and in improving outcomes for children in care has been launched. These seminars have been organised by GOSW in partnership with the South West Association of Directors of Children’s Services and Research in Practice.

The first seminar on corporate parenting on 20 January was very well attended and received. Colleagues can book their places now on one or more of the remaining 3 seminars, all of which are being held at Somerset College of Arts and Technology, Taunton.

Transition to adulthood (11 February)

This seminar will focus on the role of partner agencies in preparing young people to become achieving adults when they leave care.

This event is for those with lead responsibility for supporting transition into adulthood for children in care, including: senior local authority officers, Connexions, OSC and Children’s Trust partners; key service managers, including those responsible for supporting care leavers; housing officers and supporting people, HE/FE sector, health and Adult Service managers with responsibility for transitions.

Placement stability (24 March)

This seminar will focus on ensuring that young people in the SW experience better stability of placements whilst they are in care.

This event is for those with lead responsibility for supporting placement stability for children in care, including: senior local authority officers, strategic/operational managers, multi agency Children and Young Peoples partnerships,  key service managers, health leads for children in care, foster care network members and regional commissioning and provider forum representatives

Children on the edge of care (2 April)

This seminar will focus on understanding the issues that lead to children being taken into care and how best to support children and families.

This event is for those with lead responsibility for supporting children and families on the edge of care, including: senior local authority officers, Connexions, Children’s Trust partners; key service managers including education welfare, children’s centres, youth offending teams, domestic violence co-ordinators, housing officers, health and Adult Service managers including substance misuse and mental health.
