Launch of DVD - Advice to Migrant Workers from the Emergency Services

Published: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 17:18:34

For the last 12 months Devon & Cornwall Police have been working alongside Cornwall Fire, South West Ambulance trust and Amber initiatives (migrant worker organisation) to create a DVD aimed at migrant worker advice. The DVD is also beneficial to many in the local community as it covers basic safety messages.

The DVD contains information aimed at migrant workers coming into the County, and each emergency service has key themes within the DVD:

Police

  • Personal safety
  • Evenings Out
  • Driving
  • Stop and Search
  • Domestic Violence and abuse
  • Contacting the Police

Fire

  • Smoke Alarms
  • Kitchen Safety
  • Electrics
  • Cigarettes
  • Candles
  • Being Prepared

Ambulance

  • Calling an ambulance
  • If you are involved in a road traffic collision
  • Chest Pain
  • Someone has collapsed or had an accident
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Contacting the Ambulance Service.

The content of the DVD's will also be available online and will be hosted on the Cornwall Fire Brigade web pages. Please see the link below.

The DVD is available to view in English, Russian & Polish. This has been an excellent example of partnership working between the emergency services and a local migrant worker support organisation.
