A team of three specialist nurses based at Brtistol Royal Infirmary who support illicit drug users with all their healthcare needs have been named as the drug team of the year for the South West and Gloucestershire based drug service user co-ordinator Dave Stork was announced as the individual winner.
All winners go on to represent the region in the national awards which will be announced on 10 December.
Home Office Minister Alan Campbell said:
This year we received 360 nominations for the drug workers and teams who work tirelessly every day to tackle drugs and change lives. All the nominations in the South West were outstanding but the Bristol drug support nursing team stood out for the remarkable work they are doing in their local community."
"These awards celebrate the great contribution they make in helping individuals overcome addictive and harmful drugs, which in turn makes a huge difference to their families and their communities."
The three nurses who work as a liaison team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, have only been operating since March and won the award for their innovative work in supporting nearly 150 illicit drug users with all their health care needs.
Two overall national winners will be announced on 10 December in London and each will receive £10,000 for their organisation to spend on prevention or treatment of drug misuse.
