Policing Green Paper

Published: Thu, 24 Jul 2008 14:53:20

On 17 July 2008, the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary published the Policing Green Paper, "From Neighbourhood to the National: Policing Our Communities Together", which sets out a vision for a highly skilled, citizen focussed, modern police force, empowered to deliver policing in the 21st century.

The Green Paper builds on the recommendations made in two recent reviews – by Sir Ronnie Flanagan in his independent Review of Policing and by Louise Casey in the Engaging Communities in Fighting Crime review. The Green Paper contains proposals that will provide the public with the ability to influence the service provided by their local police. Further proposals are aimed at freeing police forces from unnecessary bureaucracy and cutting targets as well as enhancing the skills and professionalism of the service.
