2008 is the 10th anniversary of the award. To celebrate this anniversary the 1st prize has increased in the value to the sum of £10,000. The award process has expanded for the first time to include a pre-marking exercise aimed at offering feedback to potential entrants on areas for improvement to their submissions. This year also saw, for the first time, regional awards for the best entries from each of the 10 Government Office regions.
The winner of the South West regional prize was “Operation Jacket” a graffiti initiative from Portishead, which successfully tackled criminal damage in the town centre. This project has also made the final shortlist of 12 entries for this year’s national award. Congratulations to Police Sergeant Terry Scoble who authored the nomination and also to Avon & Somerset Constabulary who made such a success of this initiative.
Short listed projects are currently being marked by the judging panel and the three finalists will be announced at the end of June, with the order of winners being revealed at the POP Conference Gala Dinner on 9th September 2008.
