New Regional Director at GOSW

Published: Thu, 10 Jan 2008 15:37:54

Jon Bright took over as GOSW's new Regional Director on January 3.

Jon comes to GOSW directly from an 18-month secondment with Birmingham City Council.  He has worked in the Cabinet Office and CLG on neighbourhood renewal, housing and regeneration policies and, before that, he was Director of Operations for a national crime prevention organisation.

Jon says, "I am very pleased to be here - this is a great region, it is large and diverse and there is much to do.  My top priority is to meet key people and hear views on the challenges and opportunities facing the South West, especially on how the Government Office can improve the support we provide."

Jon's priorities for GOSW are:

  • to improve dialogue with our stakeholders in the region and in Whitehall to ensure that we are meeting their needs
  • to focus on how best to deliver the Public Service Agreements that flowed out of last Autumn's Comprehensive Spending Review
  • ensure the region's LAAs strike the right balance between national and local priorities and are both realistic and challenging
  • take forward to Sub-National Review to make sure that LAAs are linked to wider economic strategies so everyone is clear about how the economic aims for particular places will be achieved.
