Bristol - Economic Success Story Amongst English Towns and Cities

Bristol has been highlighted as an economic success story, according to a landmark report. State of the English Cities - an independent report to ODPM by a group of city experts led by Professor Michael Parkinson - is the most comprehensive study ever undertaken of England’s cities and towns, looking at their performance, the challenges they face, and their potential.

The report says that Bristol has experienced substantial economic success during the past decade based on modern industries, finance, computers and high tech industries. The report also highlights political relationships between the four local authorities have matured and there is a greater recognition of the need to take more sustainable decisions and to operate more collectively as a city region.

The study also shows that the city has also increased the proportion of working age population with degree level qualifications and its international connectivity - meaning that there are more flights to business destinations from its regional airport than ever before.
