Energy is fundamental to our way of life. The threat of climate change and reduced UK oil, gas and coal production must be addressed. These challenges provide a focus for a shift towards becoming a low carbon economy, through energy efficiency and the development of renewable and sustainable energy sources

GOSW works closely with RegenSW, the sustainable energy agency for
South West England, and has played a key role in progressing the
negotiation and delivery planning for the energy elements within Local Area
Agreements.
We have been closely involved in the Severn Tidal Power Feasibility Study
and in the developing nuclear energy agenda in the South West.
We have also been working with regional partners (most notably RegenSW) on
issues relating to how the region could deliver considerably more renewable
energy in response to the challenging targets for renewable energy by 2020.
GOSW helps co-ordinate the network of Energy and Environmental
Management Groups. These operate across the region providing a focus for
energy efficiency and environmental management activity within the public
and private sectors. These are independent organisations providing
networking and professional training for energy and environmental managers.
For further information and details on how to join your local group, visit
their website (link below).
We also organise ENVEC, the South West's main annual event addressing
climate change. ENVEC 2009 was held on 8 October at
Weston-super-Mare. For more information and to see the presentations from
the conference and expert briefing sessions, visit the ENVEC website
