South West Children's Board

There are a number of Government agencies and advisors who support Local Authorities in implementing the Children Act in their areas. To help co-ordinate support and make it as effective as possible GOSW set up the South West Children’s Board in February 2006. This brings together key decision makers from regional partners working with children’s services including Health, Youth Justice, Ofsted, National Strategies, Learning and Skills Council, Children’s Workforce Development Council, Audit Commission and GOSW

The Board meets three times a year to:

  • Agree priority areas for support
  • Share and promote examples of effective practice
  • Share and examine key regional data on performance e.g. educational achievement, children’s health etc
  • Disseminate Government policy around children, young people and families.

There are a number of sub-groups working on key issues for the SW such as:

  • Children in Care
  • Local Safeguarding Children Boards’ Network
  • Emotional Health and Wellbeing
  • A new sub-group working on the sharing of data analysis is planned to start work in Autumn 2008
