The Home Office provides research and analytical support for community safety work in Government Offices and the Welsh Assembly Government. This work supports the efforts of Government Office and the Welsh Assembly teams to improve the performance of local partnerships and spread good practice.
The main areas for research and analytical support in the South West are:
1) Supporting Performance Management against Home Office Public Service Agreements (PSA) 23 (Making Communities Safer) and 25 (Reduce the Harm Caused by Alcohol and Drugs) in the region.
For example, providing data and analysis to enable performance to be monitored and decisions to be made about where to offer additional support in the region.
2) Providing further research into and analysis of regional crime patterns and possible local solutions
This includes examining patterns of particular types of crime in the region to identify appropriate crime reduction activities.
3) Promoting effective use of analysis and evidence in the South West
For example, developing and organising the South West Analysts Network (SWAN), a network for researchers and analysts in the region to share good practice.
