By measuring crime and drug priorities against the available funding, the Funding Project enables partnerships to plan and assess where they can most effectively target taxpayer’s money to tackle the identified strategic crime and drugs priorities faced by their communities. This targeted approach helps partnerships ensure that only projects and initiatives which directly address those priority crime and drug problems win funding approval.
The Funding Project allows partnerships to make this process more open and accountable. Following the accepted SARA (Scan, Analyse, Respond and Assess) problem-solving model used by the police, Partnerships can allow all their partners, sub-group members and even their public to post problems for consideration. Problems are then analysed to identify what, if any, responses need to be put in place. Projects to tackle these problems can be managed online allowing the project deliverers to report on progress and claim funding using the system. Throughout this process full management control is retained by the partnership to ensure that they deliver against their strategic priorities.
The Funding Project was initially established for the 45 crime and drug partnerships and 21 Police Basic Command Units in the region to manage their Home Office funding. It is now being rolled out to allow the new Local Area Agreement (LAA) partnerships to manage their community safety funds and can even be used by partnerships to manage their own funding streams. It can be accessed and used by everyone involved in the crime and drugs reduction arena at any place where there is an internet connection.
