Government Offices make a regional contribution to the Government’s aim to build a safe, just and tolerant society, protect the public and ensure the balance between the rights and responsibilities of individuals, families and communities is properly maintained. Government Offices also deliver the four key themes of the National Drug Strategy.

We work closely with 16 Community Safety Partnerships at county
and unitary level in the region. The overall objective of these partnerships is
to reduce crime, the fear of crime, anti-social behaviour, drug-related crime
and the harm caused by illicit drugs. More information on this is available in
the 'Partnerships' area listed under Related Links below.
The SCD Team is responsible for the management of a number of
funding regimes totalling about £6m. We also focus on supporting improvements
in the performance of the CDRP and DAT partnerships.
As you are aware the Government Office Network is in the
final stages of a transformation programme which aims to continually improve
the way we work, within the context of reduced resources available to us.
One of the results is a changed structure in relation to the Safer and Stronger
Communities agenda. We have developed a new Safer Communities Directorate. More
information can be found here.
