The European programmes aim to address this decline and encourage the development of all year round tourism in the South West based on the region’s outstanding natural environment, unique culture and quality of service.
This includes helping the industry to address changing market requirements and secure new visitors seeking a different type of experience from the traditional holiday.
These programmes have been designed to support the development and strengthening of the tourism product. They therefore support key visitor attractions and promote the region’s natural, historic and cultural assets.
They also support the coherent marketing of the South West as a tourism destination and provide support to tourism businesses in the development of their own product and market.
Key to supporting the industry is the provision of specialised training to improve the quality of customer service to improve the overall visitor experience.
The South West and particularly the areas covered by Objectives 1 and 2 and the URBAN programme, are culturally distinct and these programmes can support the cultural development and promotion of these areas and activities by supporting projects which build on the those aspects which make them distinctive.
