To help overcome them European Programmes aim to provide support for a more flexible and innovative approach to the delivery of training in the region. This includes the improvement of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)/ broadband access to the more isolated parts of the region as well as the increased use of ICT-based training packages, improved facilities and more local venues to bring training closer to smaller communities.
In addition, the European Programmes aim to support training in less traditional skills, for example, encouraging women to take up construction skills training.
Skills and learning support is not just about providing training to get people into work. It's also about providing people with the skills and ability to move towards employment, such as basic skills training or supported learning for those who may see employment as a very long-term goal.
The Programmes are also committed to providing opportunities for employees of small businesses (SMEs) to improve their skills and experience, thus providing a highly-skilled and adaptable local workforce.
