South East councils to offer homes and jobs advice

Published: Fri, 28 Nov 2008 08:43:08

Communities Minister Iain Wright has announced that a number of councils in the South East have been successful in becoming ‘Trailblazers’ in developing their housing advice services, making links to employment advice, and providing more personalised information about the range of housing options available to them.

In the first round of the programme announced in July 2008, the Ashford Gateway centre was named as the region’s first trailblazer. The second round, announced in November 2008 adds:

  • Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire
  • East Surrey – Reigate & Banstead, Elmbridge, Mole Valley, Tandridge, and Epsom & Ewell
  • Tunbridge Wells and Rother

A further three authorities, Eastbourne, Oxford and Sevenoaks will receive ‘kick start’ funding. These programmes will start from April 2009 and run for two years.

The profile of housing advice in the region has been raised further with the publication by the South East Homelessness Forum (SEHF) of 'Shaping the future for Housing Advice Services in the South East', a report highlighting regional partnership working and the results of some regional seminars.
