Young people give MPs law ideas

Published: Thu, 17 Jul 2008 14:54:22

GOSE recently helped the Minister for the South East, Jonathan Shaw, to host two further consultation events on the Draft Legislative Programme (DLP). On 11 July, Harriet Harman joined him to discuss the DLP with around 30 young people from Reading.

Participants engaged with a range of interactive activities, including electronic voting and brainstorming ideas on the programme.  There was significant media interest, including the BBC South East Politics Show - you can watch their report on the BBC website.

We also helped to organise a regional consultation event on 14 July with business and the voluntary and community sector to discuss the DLP and the Community Empowerment White Paper.  These built on the regional events held earlier in the consultation process where Jonathan Shaw discussed the Draft Legislative Programme with representatives from local authorities and key regional organisations.

The consultation period for the DLP ends on 6 August.  More information is in this news release.
