New Outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease

Published: Fri, 14 Sep 2007 15:40:12

On Wednesday 12th September, Foot and Mouth Disease was confirmed on a holding in Egham, Surrey.

Surveillance and Protection zones have been put in place around the premises. COBR meetings have been held daily since the outbreak was confirmed.

DEFRA has said that the containment and eradication of Foot and Mouth Disease is their top priority and it remains essential for animal keepers to practice the highest standards of biosecurity, remain vigilant for disease and report any suspicions quickly.

GOSE is working closely with our partners to assist DEFRA with this aim.

The Food Standards Agency considers that foot and mouth disease has no implications for the human food chain.

For more information and regular updates, see the DEFRA website.
