Youth Task Force Action Plan

Most young people will grow up happily without needing help but some young people and their families experience problems which can escalate & have serious impact on themselves and their communities.

The Youth Task Force Action Plan sets out how the Youth Task Force will work with the most disadvantaged young people in the most challenging areas. The Youth Task Force has been working intensively with four challenging areas in the South East to help them reduce Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). These areas known as Respect Action Areas are:

  • Southampton
  • Portsmouth
  • Brighton & Hove, and
  • Hastings.

The Youth Task Force Action Plan is relevant to all areas, as well as those facing the greatest challenges. It joins up key policy areas and illustrates how prevention, support & enforcement can provide a holistic solution for the whole community.

We need an effective approach to intervention that joins support with enforcement activities through improved joint working with youth services, ASB managers and those working in the Criminal Justice System.

The Action Plan shows how life can be improved for the community when we link:

  • Targeted Youth Support which provides support for the young people, with
  • Parenting services which provide support for the family, and
  • Positive Activities to provide young people with something constructive to do.

And let's remember that young people are as likely, or more likely, to be victims of ASB as to be perpetrators. We need to engage with young people effectively to address the barriers they are facing in accessing Positive Activities and to join up work between Youth Services and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships.

There is more information on reducing ASB including good practice case studies from the South East on our Anti Social Behaviour page.

We have a document which identifies the Parenting Pilots in South East which you may find helpful.
