Ministers such as Peter Mandelson, Hazel Blears and Ed Balls answered questions on subjects including help for businesses, community regeneration and financial education in schools. Addressing guests at the close of the meeting the PM said that the Government would “listen, learn and then act” on their concerns.
The PM said:
“What we want to talk to you about is how in health, in education and transport, the infrastructure, law and order, all the areas, and all the Cabinet Ministers are here, we can improve our society, deal with gun crime, knife crime, deal with all the problems of gangs, how we can actually improve the fabric of life in our communities working with the voluntary sector…we are here to listen, to learn and then to act.”
Earlier in the day, the PM visited the Museum of Liverpool, currently under construction, and took a boat trip around the Albert Dock area to see the effects of regeneration. Mr Brown also attended a national tourism summit, where he spoke about the huge opportunity that globalisation would present over the coming decades.
