Building Local Capacity

The Sub National Review aims to improve economic growth and to narrow the gap in performance between individual regions. Local authorities are being given a greater say in this area. In the North West, there has been a lot of cooperation at sub regional level. And the region already has strong networks of local authorities around its major cities. But it is important that councils outside those areas do not feel disadvantaged.

Between now and 2010, the Northwest Regional Development Agency is considering how best it can devolve some of its responsibilities down to local authority level. This includes responsibility for programme funding and management.

In the next few weeks the Government will be consulting on the SNR proposals and how it will work in practice.
