Government Office for the North West

Government Office for the North West has offices in City Tower, Manchester, and the Cunard Building, Liverpool.

It is part of a network of nine Government Offices which represent 11 Whitehall departments in the regions.

The network has three main priorities:

  • To strengthen national policies

Government Offices are best placed to know what will be most effective in their areas and offer valuable input to policy development.

They also organise visits by ministers and senior officials to region and provide high-quality intelligence and analysis.

  • To integrate regional strategies

Government Offices can negotiate, challenge and deliver strategies that are right for their regions.

They advise on regional differentiation and on economic geography.

  • To drive local delivery

Government Offices get directly involved in the delivery of policies that make a difference to people's lives.

Government Offices negotiate Local Area Agreements for central government.

Government Office for the North West's Corporate Plan covering the period 2008-2011 was published in April 2008 and can be found on the GONW website.
