European Programme Legacy and Evaluation

The North West’s European Funding Partnership is committed to improving the lives of the people of the region. With this in mind the region’s Structural Funds have been investing in an ongoing programme of lasting legacy and evaluation activities.

Regeneration Skills Programme

In December 2004, the Partnership launched a unique accredited Regeneration Skills Programme (RSP) in the region to introduce to the North West the vital skills needed to deliver sustainable patterns of development. The training programme is helping to address the regional and national shortage of these key skills.

The RSP drew on knowledge and expertise from within the region and was delivered in partnership with RENEW Northwest, the regional centre of excellence in regeneration.

Evaluation Programme

As well as investing in the future skills in the region, the lessons learned from the current European Programmes have been captured in a series of research commissioned by the region’s EU funding Partnership.

Consultants from Regeneris, on behalf of the regional European Funding partnership have undertaken a Programme of evaluation activity to capture and analyse the lessons learned in the North West’s 2000-2006 European Programmes.

The programme will help inform future domestic and European funding programmes and has included studies on the following topics:

  • Alignment of EU and domestic regeneration programmes
  • Alignment of ERDF & ESF business competitiveness activities
  • Knowledge transfer in the NW Objective 2 Programme
  • Enterprise in the NW Objective 2 Programme

Further evaluation work has also been commissioned by the Partnership to look at the impact of the cross cutting themes (ICT, sustainable development and equal opportunities) on the European Programmes. The ECOTEC study identifies best practice and opportunities to mainstream the themes in future.

Another report was commissioned to assess the impact that the reduction in funding streams post 2006 will have on the voluntary and community sector (VCS). It looks at ways in which the VCS can respond to these changes and identify what support will be needed to help the sector adapt. Visit their website for further details.
