Pandemic Influenza

An effective response to a pandemic will require the cooperation of a wide range of organisations and active support from the public.

Influenza pandemics occur naturally and have done so for centuries - three took place during the last century. They present real challenges to the economic and social wellbeing of many countries, as well as a serious health risk to their populations.

The Government, considers the risk of a pandemic to be one of the most severe challenges likely to affect the UK. Collective planning by the Government, essential services, businesses, media, and other public, private and voluntary organisations can help mitigate the effects. We continue to work with regional responders and local resilience forums to make sure the region is well prepared.

The latest news on the H1N1 (Swine Flu) outbreak can be found on the NHS website, as well as advice on what to do if you or a member of your family thinks they may have swine flu.

Plans from our three local resilience forums can be accessed below.
