UK exports to Russia reached an all time high of £2.8 billion in 2007, while exports from the North East soared by more than 130 per cent - placing Russia in the top ten export destinations for the region for the first time.
As part of its ongoing programme of market visits, UK Trade & Investment will be hosting the market visit to Russia in October to enable companies to find out more about the market and meet potential customers.
Jonathan Gamblin, International Trade Adviser and Country Lead for Russia, who will accompany the group, said:
"Russia has a stable and rapidly expanding economy and offers plenty of opportunities for North East firms to do business.
"Key sectors are power, energy, engineering, ICT, pharmaceuticals, bioscience, healthcare, aerospace and automotive - many of which are areas in which the North East excels.
"Our delegation will be visiting Moscow, which offers access to key contacts within all industry sectors and Ekaterinburg, which has a long-established reputation for power and engineering sectors."
The Russia Market Visit, 12-17 October 2008, will enable delegates to explore the market with like-minded businesses and receive the full support of an International Trade Adviser prior to, during and after the visit.
Companies have until the end of July to sign up for the visit. Eligible companies may also receive a financial contribution towards the costs of the visit from UK Trade & Investment.
