UK Trade & Investment has joined forces with TVET UK (Technical Vocational Education and Training) to host a special event at the Regional International Trade Office, Northumbria House, Aykley Heads, Durham on Friday, 25 April, 9-11am.
The event aims to highlight the support available to companies in the education and skills sector that are interested in developing international trade markets and the work of TVET UK in providing a model for collaborative working to enhance international opportunities.
TVET UK brings together vocational education and training national agencies, sector skills councils and awarding bodies along with colleges, vocational schools, work-based and private training providers and educational equipment and materials supply companies.
Geoff Young, one of UK Trade & Investment's International Trade Advisers, who will lead the event explained:
"The education and skills sector represents a high growth area with export income around £28 billion a year for the UK as a whole, compared to automotive exports of around £20 billion, financial services of £19 billion and healthcare £14 billion. And the UK is a world leader in the manufacture and supply of learning resources and English language training.
"There are many North East companies and organisations who already successfully export their goods and services around the world and the region attracts many overseas students to our colleges and universities every year, providing a healthy boost to the local economy.
"This event provides an opportunity to find out about the new TVET UK initiative and the support available through UK Trade & Investment for companies seeking to develop their international markets, whether new or experienced exporters."
The event will include an overview of TVET UK by Alan McArthur, Business Development Manager for TVET UK, and details of the wide range of support services available through UK Trade & Investment.
Mr McArthur will also provide details of a forthcoming market visit to South Africa (9-13 June 20087), a country that offers many opportunities for companies to do business in the education and skills sector.
The event is free but the number of places available is limited. To book your place or to find out more about the wide range of services available through UK Trade & Investment contact the North East Regional International Trade Hotline on 0845 05 05 054 or email enquiries@ukti.rito.co.uk
